Brief personal introduction: I am an English Teacher (grades 10-12) at Menominee Indian High School. I have been teaching there for the last 7 years. I have three children: son Holden, aged 7; and daughters Haven, aged 5 and Miah, 10 months.
Overview of content/topic level of unit plan:

Some real-world connections that I expect my students to experience would be a heightened awareness of how leadership skills, ethics, favoritism, loyalty, idea of citizenship, politics, cronyism, and popularity can influence the climate of political arenas.
The role of the students are varied: active participant, collaborator of projects and discussions, creator of arguments and counter-arguments, supporter of classmates and their other ideas, careful reader, and finally, as a depository of relevant terms and definitions.
An overview of the project would be that the students are able to correctly identify and use both poetic and figurative language terms, give an intelligent analysis of character motivations, form tangible connections between issues (themes) from Ancient times to the real-world, and demonstrate knowledge of the evolution of language.
Although I am cognizant of the fact that many of you realize that this seems a small snapshot of what an actual unit looks like. I would like readers to identify any areas that I have missed covering, and please, feel free to offer any suggestions or recommend anything you may have tried that worked well with your own classes. I am pretty open to anything that will help my kids (and myself).
